Thrift Find: Plaid!

Good evening!

I know I have not posted in a while, I have been so busy! All my projects sit collecting dust. It is a bit of a non-stopper month! This week due to some cold weather, I had to run into a thrift store for some cheap sheets to wrap my tomato plans and corn in. Just when I was leaving my eye caught this beauty... for just $2. I don't know what it is with me and plaid! and polka dots! and stripes!

I-yi-yi!

I bought it.

Though I adore this blouse, the constant brain-stormer that I am thought, "Hummm, pearls would make a fabulous mix of rugged and chic." So, I got some pearl buttons (after washing of course, ikk). :)

And....

Va-la!

I truly am happy with the result!

Hopefully soon I will have time to post more, but until then this will have to do...

A Veil For A Friend

Mr. Law's Gift to Me

Mr. Law recently bought me this beautiful linens chest. I had been looking for a bench of sorts to go in our hallway by the front door so that guest could comfortably take off their shoes, if need be. When I saw a chest similar to this one I instantly adored the idea of a chest in the hall way with a home-made cushion on top, for seating. We both looked at this one and liked it. However, there were scratches and dents in to wood finish, so I took a day and sanded it down, taped off the inside and painted it white. Mr. Law commented when he saw it, saying "My baby sure likes white." How right he is!!!

My next project is to make a cushion for the top... :) Also, little covers for the drawers that pop up when the chest lid opens... so much fun!

Vegan Blueberry-Banana Yogurt

I did some reading last night on all the nutrients that vegetarian woman need... I have started a journey to find a healthy balance for my body. It is very necessary for woman to get natural fats in their diets. Foods with natural fats are avocados, nuts, olive oil.

So here is a recipe for a good morning start:

In a vita-mix place

One banana

One small avocado

1/4 cup of soy milk

7 or 8 almonds

1/2 or 3/4 cup of frozen blueberries

1 Tbsp sugar (you can omit this item if you prefer)

Blend until smooth ... and enjoy!

Remember to get half you body weight in water in ounces!!! Daily!!!

Frugal Living - Jackets

I recently got this book and soon will be studying it! ;)

I truly believe that women do not have to spend a ton of money to feel beautiful or look nice. But than, I am not the type of woman that feels like I have to have the latest clothing or shoes. However, I do appreciate quality made clothing, and beautiful clothing at that. For a woman to be fugal or modest does not mean she has to wear a gunny sack or look like her grandmother. On the contrary, I believe each woman has her own personal taste... and in finding her taste, the way she dresses will reflect her personality. I admire a woman that is not afraid to dress in her own personal taste of dress.

So, I thought I would give you a few pieces of my wardrobe in which reflect me... and also to show you that being frugal is not hard. These pieces I got at a Thrift store. Can you believe it?! I adore each piece, because somehow, someway they reflect a little bit of me. Not only that but they are well made pieces, for a wonderful price! :)

The key to thrifting is only to buy an item that really grabs your attention... otherwise your closet will fill up with junk you never wear. If it is a 'maybe' or 'an ok' item, just leave it behind... you won't regret it.

This green striped jacket is a Zara jacket for $7.99. I really was drawn to it when I saw it... and it was a perfect fit when I put it on. I can wear it with jeans, a white skirt, or even a white dress. So very versatile. And though I know not every woman would be crazy about this jacket... that's ok. The color and the stripes are SO me! :) They make me happy... LOL!

This rustic red jacket is a Micheal Kors jacket that I got for $9.99. The color is great for Fall wear, and goes well with my skin and dark hair color. I pair it with jeans for that chilly night getting dinner or a flowy silk printed skirt...

This jean jacket is an Ann Taylor Loft jacket for the price of $5. I felt like I got a steal on this jacket. I had actually been looking in department stores for a jean jacket and had almost paid $50 to $60 for one... I was so glad to find this. It is well made but not stiff like some jean jackets can be. And Ann Taylor no less, I adore Ann Taylor! Their clothing is very classy. I would most likely pair this wonderful jacket with my sundresses, maybe at times with some skinnys or a skirt.

This jacket was screaming my name... It is so elegant and classy with just the right touch of feminine flare. I got this jacket for $9.99. I cannot wait to pair it with a pencil skirt or a pair of dark dress jeans! :)

I am in love with this new top I made! It is so versatile! The length as you can see is a little longer than the typical length of shirts, but I kind of like it! I forgot to take a picture of the back, but the straps cross in the back. It was inspired by my one of my best friends, Bevs!

I really loved Oscar de la Renta's poke-a-dot pieces in his 2012 Resort Collection! I was inspired by these wonderful pieces! My skirt (in the middle) is made out of a navy poke-a-dot chiffon with a lining of silk. I truly love fabrics that have a flow to them...

a feminine flow!

I have always been drawn to stripes and poke-a-dots... personal taste I know...

But even looking through childhood pictures it is SO evident!

I feel there is something classy about them, for some odd reason,

Taking My Own Engagement Photos: Session 1

Last night I popped the question to Mr. Law... we were in the waiting room for our last pre-marital counseling session and I asked him if I could try and take our own engagement pictures. I had been browsing online all day to find a good photographer at a good price; however, every price I saw was just not worth it. Plus, I am already going to have to pay a couple thousand for a wedding photographer, and that is not even including video. I just could not justify paying $300 or $400 for something I felt I could do.

So... ladies and gentleman, meet my Mr. Law:

Isn't he SO incredibly handsome? I have to say I am one blessed girl! He is absolutely amazing!

And SO smart!

And look at that smile! <3

We are like night and day. I am the artist and he is the Lawyer. I see color and he sees black and white.

I have all the ideas and he has all the logic... LOL... That doesn't say much for me, huh? ;)

It is like Rocky says:

"I got gaps. She got gaps.

Together we have noooo gaps."

This was actually very fun, we had a good time... and many laughs.

LOL, I guess I'd better explain this picture... but than it may explain it's self.

Lets just say I am counting down the days till my wedding... er... wedding night, :D

I love this picture below! I know it is not 'quality' in a photographers eyes, but I love it.

It is like an inside look at Neale and I,

We have been through thick and thin and through it all we still have joy and closeness.

I have found a man that I truly love and that loves me.

Two Skirts

I made these skirts sometime back, but with the move back home and all the wedding plans I just never got around to posting them. The first skirt is made from satin and lace. The bottom layer is the satin and the lace is used as an accentuate to the satin. It is a high waist skirt that falls below the knee. I like this cut as it is very feminine and flattering.

This second skirt is a black velvet that is pressed with lines. It is high wasted too, falling just above the knee. I used a bold zipper for the back that unzips from the bottom, as well as the top. Both skirts are form fitting skirts but not overly tight skirts. The look that I like is well tailored, when skirts get too tight they loose all appeal.

I found this small print fabric and imagined this skirt right away! I am very picky about wearing prints because I feel they can either make an outfit very dated or they can class it up, one or the other. I really like this print however, and I am very happy with the outcome of this inspired skirt.

This wool vest is quite cute, not to mention warm. I replaced the buttons to give it a 'pop' of sorts. A crisp cotton, taylored shirt would look darling under it. It can be worn with jeans or slacks, ideal for winter.

For those of you that helped me on last summer’s trip. I want to thank you again with all of my heart. I have included some pictures of the Mexico trip. We completed both churches. I hope and pray that we left as much blessings as we went away with. Our God is so good!

Saying goodbye in the first little town that we built at. The children shied away from any affection at first... but slowly we became attached. It was a little heart-breaking to leave.

STRINGS OF MY HEART

I am almost convinced there are a set of strings in my heart, as those on a guitar, violin or cello, when touched the right way it sends deep, melodic vibrations throughout my soul… when I see an expression of love or when I feel God’s presence settling in my heart, different strings are hit and I seem to start to hum.

However, there is one string deep within my heart, when touched, stirs my raw emotion. It is uncontrollable. I am powerless to the ambiance it creates. Tears materialize, throat chokes up, and words escape. When the helpless are helped… when the hungry are fed… when the weary are given rest… when the hurting are given comfort… when the unloved are loved… my soul breaks open losing all sense of self, vulnerable and broken, I am defenseless to its hum.
